The vineyard is located on banks of the Rhone from Vienne to Avignon. Around «la Cité des Papes», it extends in landscapes sublimes, in le Mont Ventoux, between the Rhone, the Durance and Ouvèze. It is in this area that one produces the Chateauneuf-of-Pape, one of best believed of the Côtes-du-Rhône wines.
The wine route also called «road azur» forms a triangle between the Caumont-sur-Durance, Courthézon and Avignon. Begin your tour in Avignon, the capital of the Côtes-du-Rhône wines. Do not forget a visit of le Palais des Papes, ramparts, the Bridge-Saint-Bénézet and many churches and vaults. At le Rocher des Doms, you will find the «Vigne des Papes», a piece of Côtes-du-Rhône wine recently planted.
Carry on your road while directing you towards the Caumont-sur-Durance. You will discover la Chartreuse de Bonpas, unit Romance overhanging the river. It produces also a very good wine and organizes tastings. Go back then towards north until Chateauneuf-de-Gadagne, village with an important architectural heritage. Always towards north, follow the secondary road n°6 until Sorgues where you can admire the gardens of the Castle of Brantes.
In Sorgues, leave it to return to you in the superb village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Between le Château des Papes, la chapelle Saint-Théodoric and la Tour de l'Hers, there are very many monuments to discover. Do not forget a visit of the museum of the tools of the vine grower and a tasting of the prestigious local wine in a property of the surroundings. Taste for example famous Château Cabrières.
To complete your turn in this region, go to Courthézon. There, you will still taste excellent wines «d’appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape». One of most famous is produced on the Domaine de Fontavin.
