The Burdigala is within easy walking distance of the historic city centre with its superb 18th century buildings and squares on the bank of the tidal river Garonne. It is a contemporary building with a classic facade reminiscent of the private mansions of the city, while in the interiors, the use of wood, stone and marble, blended with the finest modern material, provide an elegant décor.
The hotel takes its name from the Latin version of Bordeaux - Burdigala. Founded by the Romans, Bordeaux was then named Burdigala and the capital of the Roman province of Aquitania. The Romans also planted the first vineyards in the region and ever since, the wine business has been the principal wealth factor of the city. Wine exports even peaked in 1307 with volumes not surpassed until 1950! The 18th century saw the expansion of trade and commerce with the colonial islands, making Bordeaux France's leading port and this period has left many outstanding buildings in the city.
Our bedrooms are spacious and decorated in contemporary style with restful colours and noble material throughout such as wood and marble. They are all sound proofed and air conditioned while the marble bathrooms have separate toilets. All rooms dispose of free and unlimited broadband internet access.
Each suite has been individually decorated, either in classic or modern style, while enjoying the same attention to comfort and detail such as sound proof walls and air conditioning. The marble and granite bathrooms boast a jacuzzi, lateral jet showers and separate toilets.
In the bright and airy setting of the Jardin de Burdigala gourmet restaurant, chef J.F. Basquin prepares gourmet dishes based on local produce such as the Pauillac lamb and duck liver paté, accompanied by a vast selection of wines, including Bordeaux's finest vintages. The cocktail-piano bar and the patio are two restful places where to enjoy a drink.
